Get Creative with Knobs...

Knobs... We're seeing them everywhere now... Not just plain old boring drawer knobs, but fabulous and funky, blinged out- big and small knobs just waiting for us to scoop them up and get creative with them besides putting them on a drawer or cabinet. Even Lowe's and Home Depot are getting funky with knobs and drawer pulls.

I stumbled across some really fabulous knobs at Hobby Lobby and bought them and was determined to figure out a way to use them in some fun way. I realized that practically ANYTHING with a knob that screws off should work or I could make it work. That means metal canisters, flour and sugar canisters, candy jars, ice buckets with lids, metal bathroom cotton ball holders with lids, etc... again, anything that has a boring knob that screws off like these that I used below:

The silver jar was $4.00 at Walmart and the dark brown jar was $5.00 at Hobby Lobby. Have you ever seen anything scream more for bling than these containers? The cool thing is that you can just add a small fun knob and it looks fabulous or if you use the right type of knobs, you can stack several on the same screw for multiple knobs.

If you use one knob, the screw from your new knob may stick down more than the old knob but you don't see it (unless you look under the knob) but it won't be much. For one knob, you just simply switch out the old knob for the new using the same washer/fastener below that comes with your new knob.

For multiple knobs, you'll need to start with a pretty large knob that the screw can unscrew completely from the knob (LOL, I'm cracking myself up here) and also, the screw needs to be long enough to fit in to one or more other knobs and then through the lid (just keep reading it over and over slowly, I'm confused too). You'll need to make sure you have enough left of the screw to fasten with the washer/fastener/thingy below the lid. Ok, so now that I've totally confused you, just look at the pictures, this is how my large knob looked when I started:

Ok, next- you'll need to use a smaller knob with a hole on the top and bottom so that you can completely remove the screw. Some knobs do not have a hole at the top and bottom or in other words, a screw that can completely come out. However, this knob below is everywhere and comes in almost every color and is perfect for stacking.




This is what it looks like when you remove the screw:



Next, you screw the smaller knob onto the long screw first and then add the large knob last like this:



Notice that I have just enough room to put through the hole of the lid and fasten tightly with the washer and you're done! If you have difficulty finding a large knob with a hole in the top and bottom, just stack a bunch of smaller knobs with holes on top and bottom and pick up a longer screw that will fit at Lowe's or Home Depot.

If you want to use something other than a knob like a shell or something else, think about simply removing the knob on your item and glue the item with E6000 glue right over the hole. Be sure and clean the area on the lid and on your item with alcohol first and allow at least 3-6 hours to bond.
