Easy Revamped Holiday Frames...

Who doesn't love a virtually free and fun holiday decor idea? Especially if you get to recycle something that's just collecting dust in your garage sale box.

Last year, my daughter Bella and I were asked by Charm Magazine to come up with a holiday "Trash to Treasure" decor idea for their Christmas edition. This was the project that we came up with and I thought we would share it with you this year. We had so much fun making our holiday frames and we wired several of of them into our trees throughout our home and set a couple larger ones out on our entry table and kitchen counter. We couldn't stop with us, so we busted out the bling and made some for friends and family too and we're doing it again this year!

When we started this project, Bella and I rummaged through our garage sale box and found tons of old frames and pulled out our scrapbook paper and sticker letters and just went to town! We refreshed some of old frames with crackle paint and for some of the old white frames, we just wiped on a couple layers of Minwax mahogany wood stain like this frame:

For our framed words, we used beautiful scrapbook papers and sticker letters/die cut letters and wrote words like Joy, Peace and Noel. For frames we gave as gifts, we spelled out last names or monograms and hot glued a wired silk four looped bow or an ornament such as a dragonfly or snowflake to the frame itself. For a couple of the smaller frames, we included a spool of wire with the gift so our friends and family could wire their monograms into their trees. If you're interested in learning how to make the four looped bow. detailed instructions are posted at the end of this posting. Here is a picture of the frame that we hot glued a dragonfly ornament to:

Below is a frame that we gave to a family member to wire into their tree:

Below is one that we tied with ribbon and attached to a wreath for a friend's front door:

This is how we display the ones we made for ourselves during the holidays:

Sophie's first appearance in my blog (15 years old):

I just love them and love that they cost us nothing, we had all of the supplies! smaller! Bow instructions are at the end of this posting and I would love to see pictures of your frames if you decide to make them.

Thank you as always for your sweet emails and comments! I was absolutely blown away this last week with more than 55 comments on the poster board tree cones! Wow! I just can't thank you all enough for your kind words! I'm so glad you all liked the trees! Thank you, thank you! Send me pictures of your trees too!

I have another holiday decor project coming up this week that is FABULOUS! It will be a guest blogger project by my friend Jennifer and you will not want to miss it, so check back!

Instructions for Four Looped Bow

1) You can do this with any ribbon. I prefer the wired silk looking ribbon best for this particular project because I can really fluff and crumple the ribbon.

2) Make a double bow loop with the end of the ribbon going past the center:

3)Pinch together your two loops in the middle and wrap the ribbon around the center once:

4) Taking the ribbon from the center of the bow, make a 3rd loop and come back to the center of bow and pinch to hold:

5) While pinching and holding the center, make your 4th loop and bring ribbon back to the center and now wrap around the center of the bow once sort of tight to secure.

6) Wrap the center of the bow a second time loose to make it look pretty:

7) Cut your ribbon on the backside of your bow, allowing an extra two inches to hot glue and fold over to complete your bow.

8) Hot glue (well) the backside of the center of your bow and attach to frame. Wait until glue completely dries and fluff the bow.

Enjoy and check back soon!

Cheers!

Cyndy
