Christmas Breakfast Casserole

I wanted to share this recipe with you just in case you've never seen it. The best thing about this delicious casserole is that it needs to be made the day before you are serving it. Christmas morning, just pop it in the oven and enjoy your time with your family. This recipe is so good, my family looks forward to it all year long and so do I!

I have altered the recipe year after year to try and make it even better and have noted my changes to the side of the recipe. I serve fruit with it as well. I have also made it with turkey sausage as well and lowfat cheese, but why not splurge on Christmas. I love me some Jimmy Dean! Here you go:

Christmas Breakfast Casserole

Ingredients:

1 pound ground pork sausage (I use Jimmy Dean but I use half mild and half hot because the hot is too spicy and the mild is too bland for us)
1 teaspoon mustard powder
2 teaspoon dill weed
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
6 slices white bread, toasted and cut into cubes (I use Texas toast bread)
8 oz mild Cheddar cheese, shredded (I increase the amount of shredded cheese to two bags and I have used all kinds of different cheeses including grated Havarti)

Directions:

1. Crumble sausage into a medium skillet. Cook over medium heat until evenly brown; drain. (I let it cool as well)

2. In a medium bowl, mix together mustard powder, salt, dill, eggs and milk. Add the sausage, bread cubes, and cheese, and stir to coat evenly. Pour into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover, and chill in the refrigerator for 8 hours, or overnight. (stir before you place in oven)

3.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

4.Cover with foil, and bake 60 minutes. Uncover, and reduce temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until set.

Enjoy and have a wonderful Merry Christmas!

Cheers!
